Chiropractic
Chiropractic care is the method of natural healing most chosen by those seeking complementary/alternative health care for acute and chronic conditions. It focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic physicians practice a drug-free and hands on approach to health care, most commonly through a method called ‘spinal manipulation’.
This includes restoring joint mobility by manually applying a force into joints that have become restricted in their movement as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. Chiropractic care restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.
According the Annals of Internal Medicine, recent studies show that spinal manipulative therapy performed by a chiropractor, along with exercise, relieve back pain more effectively than medication.
Registered Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy is one of the oldest methods of healing, with references in medical texts dating back to 4000 years ago. Massage techniques include movable pressure, kneading, and compression for the benefit of the musculoskeletal, circulatory-lymphatic, nervous, and other systems of the body.
Massage is used for a variety of health-related purposes, including relieving pain, rehabilitating sports injuries, reducing stress, increasing relaxation, addressing anxiety and depression, and aiding general wellness. Medical professionals agree that up to 90% of all diseases and illnesses are caused by stress alone- a simple problem that massage therapy is designed to resolve.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a drug-free, holistic treatment focused on rehabilitation and health promotion. A physiotherapist helps people of all ages recover from surgery, illness, chronic disease, injuries, or age-related conditions. The first step is an assessment including your health history, evaluation of movement and associated pain. Assessment of reflexes, range of motion, strength and cardio-respiratory status are also part of this initial process.
Next, the physiotherapist will work in partnership with you to develop an individualized treatment program and health goals. Using manual therapy, ultrasound and prescribed exercises, the physiotherapist will work to restore physical function for maximum independence.
Emphasis is also placed on education to prevent future injuries.
Pelvic Health Physiotherapy
Pelvic health physiotherapy is a specialized area of physiotherapy that assesses and treats both women and men with problems in and around the pelvis.
Part of this includes the pelvic floor, which is made up of joints, ligaments, nerves, and muscles. The muscles attach to the front, back and sides of our pelvic bone and sacrum.
Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a non-invasive, gentle treatment through the manipulation and massaging of the joints, bones, and muscles. Its goal is to restore mobility to joints, induce healing, and reduce pain or discomfort. Osteopathy can help with headaches, injuries, stress, colic, pregnancy pains and arthritis, just to name a few.
Cranial osteopathy is the most well-known and gentle technique used, which enables the circulation of blood and other fluids and is especially beneficial for children.
Naturopathy
Naturopathy is a holistic system in which naturopathic doctors strive to find the cause of ailment by understanding the body, mind, and spirit of the person. Most naturopathic doctors use a variety of therapies and techniques such as nutrition, herbal medicine, homeopathy, and acupuncture. Naturopaths treat anything from ear infections and asthma to chronic diseases.
A naturopathic assessment is not that different from that of a family doctor’s. It includes questions about your sleep, exercise, and eating habits and about your general health. Once all of the information is gathered, a treatment plan is formulated that addresses all areas of the person’s life, providing the body with the optimum chance to heal itself. The treatment plan may include advice on diet, lifestyle, exercise, herbal medicine, homeopathic treatments, or other suitable remedies.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture works directly with the body’s energy or qi, as acupuncture practitioners believe that all illnesses are a result of the natural flow of energy through the body becoming stuck, depleted or weakened and thus making the individual susceptible to illness. Acupuncture benefits the rebalance of qi through treatment of specific acupoints related to symptoms or illness present. It relieves pain from many common ailments and diseases like headaches, fibromyalgia, chemotherapy etc.
The biggest misconception about acupuncture is the pain associated with the needles in treatment. Acupuncture is virtually painless, as the needles used in treatment are the thickness of a human hair. Some sensitive people might feel a small prick as the needle passes the skin but most do not. Through clinical trials, acupuncture has been proven effective in treating various medical conditions and its use has been expanded into conventional medicine practices.
